(164) Science in 3-Dimensions
Three-dimensional learning fundamentally shifts science education. No longer will science be seen as fact driven, rote memorization. Instead students must be afforded the opportunity to create, analyze, and evaluate to understand scientific concepts, solve problems, and recognize how those concepts connect to other concepts in other fields. Explore how a phenomena-driven approach to science teaching that incorporates science and engineering practices along with cross-cutting concepts brings these experiences to the forefront and enables students to develop their ADI or CER skills!

(104) A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats: Easy-Teach Strategies to Lift Achievement for ELL Students
In many schools across the country, finding ways to help English Language Learners (ELLs) has been presented as an either-or option at the expense or detriment of other programs. Too often we are given the impression that money and technology will be the silver bullet to solve the achievement gap. In this presentation, participants will have the ability to see that rather than a decision of where to split limited resources, strategies in ELL classrooms or with ELL students can be used to support and lift ALL student achievement. Participants will engage in TEK-aligned, low-tech methods of allowing students to work at a reasonable pace and differentiate large groups of students with ease. Participants will walk through various low-tech solutions, such as six-station tutorial sessions, hallway video safaris using QR codes and YouTube videos, and GIF makers for more complex concepts. Participants can expect to learn how to win student's attention and dedication using readily available resources to create a winning combination of visuals, individual accountability, and technology to increase learning regardless of linguistic or socioeconomic background.

Starting and maintaining a school garden and compost pile, while not easy, opens a door to scientific inquiry and discovery in the living world. A school garden and compost pile requires a child's intellectual, emotional and social engagement with things that must be measured, counted, weighed, arranged, planned and cared for. During this workshop, educators will learn practical gardening skills - including square foot gardening.

(139) Fishy Science with Zebrafish- a fun way to bring alive science concepts and build students’ science process skills.
Come explore how you can use low-budget pet store supplies and zebrafish (Danio rerio) to spark your students’ curiosity and drive cutting-edge, real-world inquiries in your classroom. The zebrafish are freshwater fish that are at the forefront of biomedical research and are easily maintained in a classroom aquarium. In this hands-on interactive session, participants will explore the value of zebrafish to teach multiple topics including organisms’ interactions with their environment, cell structure and processes; growth, development, reproduction of organisms, ecology and genetics. Discover how real-life experiences with zebrafish inspire students to ask meaningful questions, design experiments, work a microscope to make observations, and analyze data. Discussions about the scalability of zebrafish inquiries to meet the learning needs of diverse students at multiple grade levels including Pre-AP, AP Biology, Aquatic science and Environmental science will be conducted. Classroom ready resources including vendor information for these organisms, care and feeding requirements, links to free teaching resources/interactives, and alignments to TEKS across grade levels will be provided.
