Mesquite ISD
First Grade Teacher
Black Elementary
I am a 1st grade teacher at Black Elementary in Mesquite ISD. This is my 16th year teaching (all in bilingual classrooms) and I am a presenter of technology in the classroom forums/sessions. I previously taught in Mesquite ISD for 8 years (all bilingual classrooms) and after teaching in McKinney and Allen ISD, I have returned to Mesquite. I missed Mesquite ISD. I am a technology nerd. I love introducing my students to the world of technology. I learn new things on making my life more productive and less stressful by utilizing technology. I have always had a passion for computers ever since my 1st grade classroom was introduced to the Apple II computer in 1984. I grew up with Atari and Commodore 64 gaming systems and fell in love with the bleeps and blips on the screen. I rarely get frustrated learning new technology as I love to problem solve and try new approaches. This trial and error way of learning is passed on to my students as they learn they control technology and can make it do what they WANT it to do. I specialize in educational apps and digital portfolios in the classroom. SeeSaw is an app that has brought joy to the last 5 years of my teaching career as students are fascinated to show their learning using technology. I am a lifelong learner as I have a Master's degree in Educational administration and I have 3 years of doctoral work with TAMU-C. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and 2 nieces and 1 nephew that I adore. My hobbies include going to the ballet, theater and concerts and knitting. I love the Beatles and my favorite singer is Bob Marley. I love to watch Blue Planet and animal shows on Animal Planet.
