(100) "Hands-On, Minds-On" to a Mini Make-and-Take Workshop: Science Games and Puzzles for Elementary

This is a mini "Make-and-Take" workshop that will help teachers create their own games and puzzles that target a specific TEKS or topic. Teachers will END UP WITH SAMPLE PRODUCTS of their own games and puzzles that can be modified and used in their own classroom. Teachers will also learn some great ideas for their Project Based Learning. _x000D_
Students learn best when they are fully engaged and there is nothing more engaging to young people than fun. They also perform best when they are intellectually challenged but do not feel threatened to participate and express themselves. These games, puzzles, and projects can be used for different class sizes and settings. They are very effective to use for: _x000D_
1. lesson enrichment, _x000D_
2. classroom management_x000D_
3. concept application_x000D_
4. practice exercises _x000D_
5. informal assessment _x000D_
6. test review, and more_x000D_
These instructional tools can be made using very affordable materials. When properly used, these tools will:_x000D_
(1) engage students by giving them a motivation to learn and actively participate in activities _x000D_
(2) motivate them to explore further the concepts and skills they have acquired through hands-on and minds-on practice_x000D_
(3) give an opportunity to explain what they have learned as they listen critically to analyze answers _x000D_
(4) encourage them to elaborate as they apply in the activities the principles/concepts they mastered, _x000D_
(5) prompt them to evaluate their own understanding and degree of knowledge that gives them a sense of accomplishment or leads them to further study _x000D_
